MAA YOUTH FOR CLIMATE ACTION

Maa Youths For Climate Action (MY4CA) is an initiative under Oldonyo Orok Youth Self Help Group, started in December 2022 to champion for climate action in our community.

VISION AND MISSION

To nature a youthful generation that is mindful and protective of the environment, foster climate adaptation and implement Climate Action intervention initiatives in the Maa community.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To establish a tree nursery to mass produce ideal dry land tree seedling species.

  2. To establish an intensive reforestation programs

  3. To develop tree planting programs in all local public schools and public institutions and provide them with tree seedlings for planting.

  4. To encourage establishment of tree nurseries on private land by providing them with a ready market for their tree seedlings.

  5. To encourage establishment of tree nurseries on private land by providing them potting bags and seeds.

  6. To establish a tree growers association of local tree seedlings producers

  7. To provide a platform for corporates to support large scale CSR tree growing and management programs.

  8. To incorporate youths, women and people with disabilities in tree planting programs.

  9. To raise awareness and sensitization on afforestation on community lands.

  10. To raise awareness and advocate for use of green energy for cooking such as biogas as alternatives to charcoal and firewood.

  11. To partner with other organizations and local authority to develop mechanisms that supports sustainable management of livestock grazing.

  12. To incorporate in our tree nursery and advocate for high value trees, fruit trees and shrubs on local farms.
