MODERN CATTLE SPRAY RACE

Spray Race, Water Tank, Water Trough and a Water Point for Domestic Use

In August 2020, we partnered with The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority to establish a livestock spray race, water tank and a water trough and a water point for domestic use at The Sempewueti Water Project, Maili Tisa, Namanga.

Pyrethroids are among the most widely used pesticides for tick control. One way to kill ticks on host animals is to dip livestock and pets in a pesticide bath. When used for cattle, this is termed a cattle dip.

A spray race provides a more efficient way for tick control among livestock in our community. It is composed of metallic pipes that run on the floor, the side walls and overhead fitted with 34 jet nozzles which release the spray wash at appropriate points.

Being a pastoral community, our people mainly depend on livestock for sustenance. Taking care of the livestock thus should not pose as a health hazards to the herders.
